On Saturday, March 4th, the University of Southern Mississippi English Graduate Organization in partnership with the Mississippi Humanities Council and the Hattiesburg Arts Council hosted a Reading and Reception featuring Mississippi Poet Laureate Beth Ann Fennelly at Oddfellows Gallery. This event concluded the 2017 Bodies of Work Conference. Pictured are conference organizers Emily Martin, Dr. Thomas Holmes, Mississippi Poet Laureate Beth Ann Fennelly, Dr. Emily Stanback, Mary Stephens, and Dr. Max Macpherson. This project was made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council, through support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The event will be held on Saturday, March 4 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Oddfellows Gallery in Downtown Hattiesburg and will conclude the 2017 Bodies of Work conference hosted by EGO. The event is free and open to the community.

The topic of the body allows for a broad range of inquiry and conversation between many communities, from athletes to sociologists to grandparents to artists. The main objective of the conference is to be both organized by and inclusive of all types of bodies and disciplines.

USM hosts writing event to feature Mississippi Poet Laureate

HATTIESBURG- The University of Southern Mississippi will be hosting “Bodies of Work: The Human Body in Various Forms,” in March. 

The event is put on by the University of Southern Mississippi’s English Graduate Organization (EGO) and Center for Writers (C4W). Both are working together to put on the conference to showcase creative and scholarly work on March 3-4.
