About EGO

The English Graduate Organization (EGO) is a resource for graduate students in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Southern Mississippi. EGO offers opportunities for professional development, academic and community service, financial support, networking, and advice on graduate student survival.

EGO offers a series of seminars ranging from paper writing to pedagogy, as well as its annual graduate student conference. Through these activities, EGO strives to help its members build curriculum vitae and develop significant academic and professional skills.

While maintaining its commitment to academic excellence and career enhancement, EGO also values graduate student social life. Events such as a Silent Auction, bowling nights, pizza parties, pot lucks, and pub-crawls encourage EGO members to form a community.

About C4W

C4W Logo

C4W is the graduate student organization for the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi. We offer opportunities for professionalization, financial support, and networking within the creative community in Hattiesburg.

Working closely with the outstanding faculty members at Southern Miss, C4W frequently offers workshops for professional development. In the past, these have included panels on submitting and publishing creative work; applying to academic jobs, fellowships, and residencies; as well as finding and working with writing agents.

In addition to our commitment to career enhancement, C4W also aims to foster a social community for our members. We host a monthly graduate reading series, a Submit-a-Thon, and one fundraiser each semester. These events reinforce C4W’s mission to establish a supportive environment for graduate students both in and out of the classroom.

Participating C4W members are eligible to apply for award funds, which include reimbursement for travel to present creative work, submissions fees, as well as costs associated with job and fellowship/residency applications. Once a year, C4W also presents graduate student awards for best fiction and poetry submissions.
